About Us

Your hosts are Clive and Naice Maguire. Clive is from Ireland and Naice is a true Amazonense. The other members of the family are our wonderful son Aaron, Ozzie the Miniature Schnauzer (ostensibly from Germany), Kelly the Heinz 57 (from literally just down the road), and our resident canine tough-guy Toto.  The dogs like to meet new friends and get on well with people who like dogs. We're here because we love the Amazon - the rainforest, the rivers, the wildlife, the weather, Amazonense people - all of it.

We set up Maguire's after emigrating here in 2007. The decision to open a guest house was taken when we realised that something was needed that would meet the needs of visitors who want a little more from their trip than mediocre and impersonal service and who recognise that getting around in the Amazon isn't as straightforward as it might be in London or Ibiza - but who nonetheless have the spirit of adventure that most often brings people to the region.

We chose our current location because it's about as far away as you can get from the 'big smoke' and still retain the luxuries that most guests like to fall back on from time to time (running water, light and air-con., primarily). We back onto forest but are only a kilometre from the main Estrada do Turismo and rapid access to nightlife and the airport. For the moment anyway, we feel it's a prime location* as a base from which to explore this rich an exciting part of the world - and we think you'll agree.

*POLITE NOTICE. It has been drawn to our attention that one or two of our guests gave us only 4 stars out of 5 for our location, because we're 'not in the town centre'. Well yes - that's correct - that's why we tell people where we are - specifically and precisely, we are not in the town centre. And there's a map that shows quite clearly that we are decisively and absolutely not in the town centre. There are hotels in the town centre, of course...and we are extremely pleased not to be one of them.
