Our guide, Rinaldo
Furtado, was fantastic. He managed to keep everyone
included in the conversation and jokes, and continuously
checked to make sure we had everything we needed. Maggi
managed to produce the most amazing meals and always
with a smile, under rather difficult circumstances.
Naldo, our local guide, was a joy to be around, always
laughing and a great pantomine artist, pointing out all
the animals. |

Rinaldo was
incredibly knowledgeable about local people, animals,
and uses of plants, which he learned by shooting the
breeze with local people (which also helped us get
campsites on local lands, someone to take us through the
tangled flooded forest and get us back at night). This
does mean he's very casual about time, and drinking on
the job - but gave us a really authentic experience. He
caught the usual caiman and tarantula, as well as the
less usual Nighthawk. Camping in hammocks was
phenomenal, with the stars above, though of course this
means no toilets/showers.
This tour is an
incredible experience, but not for the OCD [obsessed]
about cleanliness. We loved the tree-climbing, the
jungle hike (learned how to set a trap and cure diseases
- sort of), and the gorgeous black-water cruising.
They're very helpful
- do all the cooking, canoeing and setting up so you can
enjoy and relax. |
